In My Kitchen - May 2015

It's time for another round of the very cool monthly happening called "In My Kitchen" run by Celia at Fig Jam and Lime Cordial

So here we go....

This Month in my Kitchen...

April showers brought Darling buds of May!

Kishore was in India for 2 weeks while his Dad recovered from Surgery, so it was a pretty quiet April. Missed my Hubby but he came home just in time to see our Spring garden blooming. :)

The Kitchen Garden is growing as the weather has warmed, and we can't wait to reap the rewards. Our fish survived this horrid winter and are happily swimming along.

Found this lot of items! 3 lbs of Mixed nuts for $1-planning on using them for nut butter. Locally harvested garlic, that escaped my garden beds, no doubt with some squirrelly help. 1 lb of fresh Turmeric root, perfect for Golden Milk.

Amma sent loads of goodies home with Kishore: Red Chilies, Pickles (Shrimp&Ginger), Steel Canisters to name a few.

Hubby brought me much needed Saffron, perfect for Biriyani.

Kishore got me a lovely gift on his layover in Dubai, this wonderful fusion cookbook. The recipes are lovely, the pictures are beautiful, and its smell brought me back to the Spice Souk.

Got my hands on some locally ground sprouted spelt flour for baking.

I've been experimenting with cheesemaking, and so far so good. Raw milk cheese successes include Feta (Half Goat- Half Cow's Milk) and Soft Goat's Milk cheese with Cranberries and a drizzle of Raw Local Honey.

With the good weather this past weekend my sister and I, decided to dine in the backyard on handmade blue corn tortillas, homemade crema, maduras, black beans, scrambled eggs, and fresh tomato salad.

Please make sure you stop in and take a glance at everyone else's kitchens!

So tell me...What's happening in your kitchen this month?

  5. Wow, I saw that saffron and had a twitch of envy and your garden is really coming along. I wonder how long the book needed to stay near spices that it would still have that aroma. I think that's cool!

    1. Thanks Sherry! As long as the food is cooked and under a certain amount it's usually ok. Fresh fruits, vegetables, meat,. or plants are absolutely out of the question without a USDA permit
